Historic by-election win at the DCBL Stadium

It was a busy night at the DCBL Stadium as votes were counted late into the night for the Runcorn and Helsby by-election.

The DCBL Stadium is no stranger to vote counts, hosting last years general election result for its borough of Widnes and Halebank, where long standing Labour MP, Derek Twigg, maintained his seat in parliament, which he has held since 1997.

However, today’s local by-election for the borough of Runcorn and Helsby was far from a landslide, with Nigel Farage’s Reform UK candidate, Sarah Pochin, beating Labour’s, Karen Shore, by just 6 votes.

Nail biting results are usually reserved for the Rugby pitch, but moments of political importance, such as this, reflect the position of the DCBL Stadium as a hub for the local community.
