Half of people aged over 55 are now using technology to manage their budgets

Our recent research found that more than half of people aged over 55 now use technology to better budget, despite long-held assumptions that tech is the reserve of a younger audience.

The new research commissioned by DCBL tells a different story, one of a growing digital assurance among older adults and a real appetite for more digital channels when it comes to money management.

Over three-quarters (76%) say they would proactively handle their money via an app or online portal, if offered by their bank or finance provider.

This growing digital engagement among older age groups reflects a shift in the way people of all ages interact with their personal finances, and it’s a shift DCBL is actively supporting with the launch of its new Customer App.

In its continued efforts to adapt and evolve with new technology, DCBL’s app offers direct access to its support teams via phone, email, WhatsApp, and live chat, so customers can choose their preferred communication method.

DCBL Group Strategy Director Lee Samuels-Camozzi said:

“These findings highlight the importance of having multiple communications options open to customers, and how using technology produces better outcomes for customers.

“It means that people can get information at the push of a button at any time of the day or night. Technology now touches almost every part of our lives, and every generation has some level of digital literacy.

“By offering self-serve options like an app, we can see customers are more likely to engage with us, update their billing information, and pay their outstanding balances at a time that suits them.
