Our recent study of 2,000 people in the UK revealed that ‘1 in 3 say better visibility of personal finances improves mental wellbeing’.

Read by over 100,000 people online, the Fintech Finance News article picks up the story:

DCBL personal finance visibility is in the spotlight as new research reveals a strong connection between financial transparency and improved mental wellbeing. The study highlights how greater awareness of personal finances can help reduce stress and increase consumer confidence.

As many as 94% of people like the ability to view their financial situation at the touch of a button, with almost a third (32%) claiming that this has a directly positive impact on their mental wellbeing.

New research of 2,000 UK adults by debt resolution specialists, DCBL, has revealed that better visibility of finances is intrinsically linked to greater wellbeing.

Statistics showed that 28% felt more in control of their financial situation with the ability to log in and view outstanding balances and upcoming payments via digital technology.

16% said that easy access to information digitally helps to provide a clearer picture of their current financial situation.

DCBL commissioned the research to gain a greater understanding of the British public and its current attitudes to money management, as it introduces its new app and latest technological innovation. It continues to improve early engagement and encourages customers to be proactive in their financial management.

The findings have supported the company in shaping DCBL’s approach to customer support. Its new IOS and Android app allows users to view outstanding payments, pay bills at any time of the day, and manage repayments.

DCBL Group Strategy Director, Lee Samuels-Camozzi, is quoted by Fintech Finance News:

Giving people the ability to easily access and manage their finances has clear benefits to improving people’s wellbeing. The wellbeing of our customers is a continued focus.

“As technology advances, it’s important that organisations provide greater access and choice to the channels that they provide. The introduction of a self-serve option like apps and online portals means customers can check balances and make payments around their existing commitments.”

The findings also showed that younger people – aged 18-24 – were almost twice as likely to have improved mental wellbeing as a result of improved visibility compared to their older counterparts, aged 65 or older – 42% versus 22%.

Director of Operations, Vicky Felton, also featured in the Fintech Finance News article:

Different demographics prefer different channels of communication and payment.

“Recognising that customers’ preferences are diverse – and meeting them where they prefer to communicate and access information – means reducing any anxieties they may encounter.

“We are also mindful of vulnerable customers who need additional support to reconcile their bills. Our research shows that lower-earning households are more likely to say that better visibility of their finances helps to alleviate stress.

“Giving all users the ability to contact our support team or schedule a call at a time that suits them also gives additional peace of mind to customers.”
